Frequently Asked Questions

How is EFT different from counselling or talk therapy?

EFT incorporates both physical (somatic) and cognitive (thinking) elements. Unlike many conventional methods like talk therapy, which primarily rely on changing thoughts, EFT recognises the importance of addressing physical sensations and emotions. While altering thoughts may work for some, many individuals find it challenging to shift their mindset or even identify the thoughts needing modification.

In EFT, the focus is initially on acknowledging the issue without immediate attempts to alter it. EFT utilizes tapping techniques to alleviate distressing feelings or bodily sensations. This process doesn't demand significant willpower or prolonged effort, making it more accessible and effective for many.

Imagine simply acknowledging what doesn't feel right in your life—whether it's a troubling thought or a physical discomfort—and using EFT to ease it. By concentrating on the problem while tapping, individuals often experience a shift towards feeling better, neutral, or calm.

Through EFT, the areas of the brain responsible for the stress response, like the amygdala, become more tranquil during and after tapping sessions. Consequently, individuals find themselves experiencing greater calmness regarding their issues and gaining clarity in their thinking.

does EFT help with anxiety?

When we are feeling overloaded with anxiety, one of the things that happens is that the amygdala, which is part of the limbic system in the brain, is turned on, as it is sensing danger. This leads to the production of the stress hormone cortisol. This overload of the amygdala can lead to disabling the part of the brain which controls ration and reasoning; the frontal cortex.

When we stimulate acupuncture points through tapping, it sends a calming signal to the amygdala, and stops the production of cortisol. This then allows the frontal cortex, the rational reasoning part of the brain, to come back into operation.

Very often, after a couple of minutes of tapping, people say they feel calmer, can see things differently now, or feel distant from the problem.
